UV-stable and saltwater-resistant plastic for marine environments

Marine environments place extreme demands on UV stability, saltwater resistance and mechanical strength. PlastShop delivers materials to shipyards, boat builders, navies and the offshore industry. Our materials withstand long-term exposure to sun, salt and moisture without degrading, discoloring or losing their properties.

Requirements and Challenges

  • UV stability to withstand long-term sun exposure
  • Saltwater resistance without corrosion
  • Impact resistance to withstand mechanical stress
  • Low water absorption to maintain properties in humid environments
  • Non-slip surfaces for safety on board

Recommended Materials

PE-1000 (UHMW)
Fenders, crash bars and wear strips. Exceptional wear resistance
PE-HD
Piers, pontoons and work surfaces. UV-stabilized
PMMA
Windows and light entry. UV-stable, transparent
PVC
Profiles and cladding. Saltwater-resistant, flame-retardant
PA6
Bushings and bearings. Good chemical resistance, but absorbs moisture
PEEK
High-performance parts in propeller systems and pumps

Common Applications

Fenders and crash bars

PE-1000 for fenders, dock protectors and crash bars. Absorbs shocks without cracking.

Piers and pontoons

PE-HD for pier decking, pontoons and work surfaces. UV-stabilized and non-slip.

Windows and light entry

PMMA and PC for boat windows, light entry and windshields. UV-stable and impact-resistant.

Bearings and fittings

PA6 and POM for bearings, bushings and fittings in marine environments. Resistant to saltwater.

Why choose plastic?

Plastic does not corrode in saltwater, unlike most metals. The material requires minimal maintenance, does not need to be painted and withstands UV radiation with proper stabilization. Plastic is also lighter than metal, which is crucial in marine applications where every kilo counts. With PE-1000 as fender material, you get crash protection that absorbs energy without cracking or deforming permanently.
