PPE: The Underrated Plastic for High Temperatures

We offer many materials that withstand high temperatures, but polyphenylene ether, abbreviated PPE, deserves some extra attention. It's a material that may not be as well-known as others, but it has a unique combination of properties. This makes PPE a great choice for several applications.

High Heat Resistance

One of the main advantages of PPE is its high heat resistance. It can withstand temperatures above 200°C without losing its shape or mechanical properties. Therefore, it's well-suited for the electronics and automotive industries, where high temperatures and vibrations are common.

Unique Properties

PPE has low water absorption, below 0.1%. This makes it suitable for environments where moisture can be a problem. It also has excellent dimensional stability. This means the material retains its shape and size even when temperature or humidity varies.

How does PPE compare to other plastics like PC and POM-C? Polycarbonate, or PC, is also often used in high-temperature applications. However, PC absorbs more water than PPE, which can affect its properties in humid environments. Polyoxymethylene, or POM-C, is known for its low friction and good mechanical properties. But it has lower heat resistance than PPE, which limits its use in high-temperature environments.
